Traditional Uses:
Internal:
- Facilitates digestion and prevents wind and nervous stomach conditions like ulcers and gut spasms.
- Exhibits a calming effect, aiding in sleeplessness and potentially alleviating migraines.
- Relieves stress, enhances concentration and memory.
- May aid in tonsillitis, mouth infections, palpitations, hypertension, and delayed menstruation.
- Assists in the management of diabetes and offers potential support in combating hay fever and asthma.
- Thought to have anticancer properties.
External:
- Basil cream is helpful for cramps and stiffness.
- Soothes infected insect bites and stings.
- Basil vinegar is effective for sunburn and scalp infections.
- Can be used in massage oil to alleviate anxiety and depression.
Directions for Use:
- Prepare an infusion by steeping 1 - 2 teaspoons of dried leaves in 1 cup of boiled water for 10 - 15 minutes. Drink two to three times per day.
