Properties:
- Astringent, tonic, bitter, mild diuretic, vulnerary, anti-spasmodic, diaphoretic, carminative, hepatic, cholagogue.
Traditional Uses:
- Widely employed in treating diarrhea, including cases in children, as well as stomach and intestinal ailments, and gallstones. Beneficial for healing gum, mouth, and throat infections such as tonsillitis and thrush. Additionally used for rheumatism, lumbago, hardening of the liver, and spleen disorders. Long-term use may aid in the treatment of kidney and bladder disorders, as well as enlargement of the heart, stomach, and lungs. Uncommonly used to relieve coughing and for removing thorns embedded in the flesh. Gargling with an agrimony infusion is recommended for opera singers to enhance the suppleness of the larynx. Boiling in milk may help with male impotence, and it possesses astringent properties. Effective for treating mucous colitis, urinary incontinence, and cystitis.
Directions:
- Prepare an infusion by steeping 1 - 2 teaspoons of herb in 1 cup of boiled water for 10 - 15 minutes. Drink three times per day.
- For a bath, soak 200g of herbs in cold water overnight, then heat and strain the next morning. Add to bathwater and soak for 20 minutes, ensuring the heart is kept above the water. Avoid drying off with a towel; instead, put on a gown, wrap with a blanket, and sweat out for one hour.
- For ointment preparation, add 2 heaped handfuls of finely chopped leaves to 250g lard.
- Can be used on animals for jaundice, bleeding, and sprains.
